Lewis Pugh – described as ‘Sir Edmund Hillary of swimming’ – managed to brave the icy Antarctic waters for eight minutes following years of training and now intends to swim across an entire supra-glacial lake.
This brave Brit wore only swimming trunks as he became the first person ever to swim under an Antarctic ice sheet.
Lewis Pugh, 50, plunged into the icy waters of the South Pole to achieve the incredible feat.
Incredible photos show him doing the front crawl through a magnificent bright blue tunnel formed under the largest single mass of ice on Earth.
