Lewis Pugh began his swim around Martha’s Vineyard today, where scenes from the movie Jaws were filmed 50 years ago. The aim of The Shark Swim is to change the story on sharks, to do away with the negative portrayal of this apex marine animal and remind people that sharks are not monsters, but rather the heroes of our oceans.

Lewis started at Edgartown Harbour and began his swim in water that was a chilly 46°F (8°C).

Here’s our video of the swim start.
