DEEPER UNDERSTANDING
As a marine biologist, underwater explorer, photographer and author, Greg has been actively involved in the study of sharks for more than 40 years. He currently heads up the Massachusetts Shark Research Program at the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.
He is also adjunct faculty at the University of Massachusetts School for Marine Science and Technology, and an adjunct scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Much of Greg’s current research centers on the use of acoustic telemetry and satellite-based tagging technology to study the ecology and behavior of sharks. “In recent years, we have been very focused on white shark biology in the North Atlantic,” he says. “Using state-of-the-art technologies, we are starting to better understand the biology of this iconic species in this part of the world.” Greg’s most recent book, Chasing Shadows, chronicles his personal history with white sharks, and the re-emergence of this predator on Cape Cod. Naturally, it discusses the impact the movie Jaws has had on the public perceptions of sharks. Learn more about Greg’s work on Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and X.
