Nature for Water
FROM EROSION TO RESILIENCE
Water is the lifeblood of ecosystems, economies, and communities; Nature for Water works to ensure it flows freely and sustainably for generations to come. Managed by The Nature Conservancy and Pegasys, this initiative empowers local champions to create Watershed Investment Programs that aim to restore ecosystems by scaling up Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Their international team of experts in hydrology, GIS, ecology, governance, finance, and project management are on a mission to improve 4,000 km of rivers, 8,000 hectares of wetlands, and 275,000 hectares of land, benefiting over two million people worldwide.
One of Nature for Water’s flagship projects is in Ghana’s Black Volta River Basin, where it partners with the Water Resources Commission to explore the potential for NbS. This catchment suffers from severe erosion and water quality concerns, but with a focus on riparian buffer restoration, sustainable agriculture practices, and water retention features, Nature for Water hopes to lay the groundwork to address the issues.
